Gaming Equity Network: your questions answered

About the network
What is the Gaming Equity Network?
A collaborative network for organisations and leaders who want gaming and digital play to work for everyone. It brings together schools, community organisations, gaming CICs, the games industry, researchers, youth services, funders and policymakers to look at equity, inclusion, accessibility and responsibility in gaming.
IFB Gaming convenes the network. It grows out of more than ten years of our own work using gaming as a way into digital skills and confidence in south London.
Why gaming, and why now?
For many people, gaming is where life online starts. It’s often the first place someone changes a text size, turns on subtitles, remaps a controller, uses voice chat or finds a community that understands them. For many disabled and neurodivergent people, it’s where the digital world first feels built with them in mind.
That makes gaming a real entry point to digital inclusion. Confidence built in a game can carry over into booking a GP appointment, managing benefits or keeping in touch with family. Yet gaming is rarely part of the digital inclusion conversation. The network exists to change that.
What will the network do?
- Bring members together to share practice and agree a common agenda.
- Develop and test pilots in schools and community settings.
- Publish case studies, briefings and free resources.
- Build evidence to inform policy, funding and responsible design.
Founding members will help decide which of these come first.
Why is the launch on 3 December?
3 December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Accessibility is at the heart of gaming equity, so it’s the right day to launch the network publicly, with every founding member named.
Joining as a founding member
What does a founding member do?
Founding members help shape the network’s early direction and ways of working: what it focuses on first, how it meets and how it’s sustained. The role is about influence and stewardship.
We ask three simple things:
- Your logo, so we can name you as a founding member on our network page and at the launch.
- A one-line commitment to gaming equity, in your own words.
- If you can, one post during Get Online Week using #GetOnlineWeek, #IFBGaming and #GamingEquityNetwork.
Who can become a founding member?
Any organisation that uses or shapes gaming and cares about making it fairer: gaming CICs and charities, accessible gaming organisations, schools and youth services, esports and games companies, researchers and policy-adjacent bodies.
We’re keeping the founding group deliberately small and diverse. We’re especially keen to hear from organisations working in accessible gaming, skills and careers, wellbeing, and representation in games.
Does it cost anything?
No, there is no cost to join at the moment. The network is not a sales or membership product.
We’re at the very beginning. If the network needs a way to sustain itself in future, founding members will help design it, and it will be transparent and agreed together. Nobody will be signed up to anything without being asked.
How much time will it take?
It’s light-touch: two or three short online sessions over the next three to four months, plus optional written input if you’d like to contribute more.
There are no formal obligations, and you can pause or step back at any time.
What’s the deadline?
Register by Tuesday 20 October 2026 to be named in our Get Online Week announcements. You can still join at any time before the formal launch on Thursday 3 December 2026.
How do I join?
Register your organisation on our Join the Network page. It takes about two minutes.
Registration is for organisations only, so please use your organisation email address. Personal addresses such as Gmail or Hotmail can’t be accepted. If your organisation doesn’t have its own email domain, email info@ifbgaming.com and we’ll register you directly.
Once you’ve registered, we’ll confirm by email and ask for your logo and your one-line commitment to gaming equity.
The Charter and taking part
Do we have to sign the Gaming Equity Charter?
No. The IFB Gaming Charter sets out the principles the network is built on, such as equity and access, safety by design, inclusive representation and wellbeing. Founding members share these principles, but signing the Charter is voluntary and is not a condition of joining.
Will we have to make public statements?
Only the ones you choose. Your one-line commitment appears in your own words, and you approve how your organisation is named. A Get Online Week post is welcome but optional.
Is this connected to Get Online Week?
Yes. Get Online Week (19 to 25 October 2026) is the UK’s annual campaign for digital inclusion, led by Good Things Foundation. This year’s line is “Can’t get online, can’t get by.” We’re using the week to make the case that gaming belongs in the digital inclusion conversation, and to open the call for founding members.
Help shape it from the start
If your organisation uses gaming to open doors, we’d love to hear from you. Register by Tuesday 20 October to be named during Get Online Week, or join any time before the launch on 3 December.
